22 August 2007 - A study by the Direct Marketing Association's 'Email Marketing Council' has found that for the first time commercial e-mails have overtaken traditional direct mail.
The survey found that year on year volumes of commercial e-mails have increased by 52 percent, with the average volume of e-mails rising by 50 percent in the last quarter alone. Spending on posted junk mail continues to rise, although volumes have decreased over the past year.
The survey includes responses from 75 percent of e-mail service providers in the UK, who deliver the majority of so-called 'outsourced e-mail messages' to both business and private e-mail accounts. According to Direct Marketing Association, 100 percent of respondents believe that the e-mail volumes will continue to grow.
